The main objective of this book explores the rich potential of novel biodiesel in the form of tamarind seed oil for use as a renewable fuel in diesel engines. Its abundant availability at almost zero price, higher sustainability and eco-friendliness makes it an attractive option for large-scale application in diesel engines in a country like India. Tamarind Seed Methyl Ester (TSME) a viable potential fuel is derived from tamarind seed through transesterification process. The physio-chemical properties of tamarind seed methyl ester blends were evaluated experimentally and compared with the diesel fuel and all properties are well within ASTM standards. The experimental results exposed a significant improvement in brake thermal efficiency and a considerable reduction in the harmful pollutants like carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon and smoke along with the better combustion and higher heat release rates making the potential of tamarind seed biodiesel is an important source of alternative fuel. Finally, the tamarind seed biodiesel is a suitable and potential alternate fuel for replacing the diesel partially or completely in diesel engine towards the energy sustainability and eco-friendly.
