Druckfehler im Buch. Leider fehlen Kapitel 4 bis 8; dafür finden sich die ersten Kapitel in doppelter Ausgabe. Wirklich sehr ärgerlich

They all swear that the mobiles do not belong to them and that they don’t have the least idea how they ended up in their backpacks. Bronwyn, the perfect student with a flawless record and surely a place at one of the Ivy League colleges; Nate, the constant loser who is currently on probation for drug dealing; Cooper, a promising baseball player; Addy, the girlfriend of one Bayview High’s most wanted boys; and Simon, on the one hand an outsider, on the other the creator and head behind the school’s gossip app who seems to know all the secrets of his class mates. Just a couple of minutes later, Simon is dead and the four remaining students are the prime suspects. Actually, all of them have something to hide as the police soon finds out and their secrets might have lead each single student to murder. They all plead innocent, but apparently one of them must be lying. I really enjoyed this combination of young adult with crime novel. Karen McManus’ four protagonists are interestingly drawn, very singular characters which – of course – show some stereotypical features but which I think is normal for their age where you try to play some role and fit in. The author plays with the reader in bit by bit revealing more about the teenagers and their individual flaws and weaknesses. I did not really expect all of them having these secrets which, in fact, are everything but harmless and could really destroy their lives – well, that’s what happens when they are a finally revealed. I liked the arc of suspense a lot. First of all, there has been a murder quite at the beginning of the story and of course you want to know who committed the crime. But then, all protagonists one after the other tell you that they have something to hide without immediately illuminating you. So apart from the search for the murderer, there is much more you want to find out and which makes you keep on reading. For me, “One of US is Lying” can easily equal novels such as Jay Ashers “Thirteen Reasons Why”, Celeste Ng’s “Everything I Never Told You” or E. Lockhart’s “We Were Liars”. Weniger

Am Ende ist Simon tot und jeder der Vier hat ein Motiv, denn Simon ist der Autor von About That, der Gossip App der Schule und er hat vor seinem Tod pikante Geheimnisse von jedem der Vier ausgegraben. "One of Us Is Lying" ist ein Einzelband von Karen M. McManus, der aus den Ich-Perpektiven von Bronwyn Rojas, Nate Macauley, Addy Prentiss und Cooper Clay erzählt wird. Die vier Protagonisten könnten unterschiedlicher nicht sein: Bronwyn ist klug, engagiert und bricht niemals eine Regel. Addy ist die beliebte Homecoming Prinzessin mit einem perfekten Freund. Cooper ist der Star Pitcher der Schule und als Sportheld ebenfalls sehr beliebt. Nate ist der Außenseiter, der gerade wegen Drogenhandel auf Bewährung ist. Wenn sie vorher nicht in denselben Kreisen unterwegs waren, durch den Tod von Simon Kelleher haben sie plötzlich eine Gemeinsamkeit, denn sie werden alle beschuldigt, für seinen Tod verantwortlich zu sein. Ich bin jemand, der gerne die letzten Seiten eines Buches als Erstes liest. Bei einem Thriller oder Krimi nicht die schlauste Idee, denn wenn man so versehentlich entdeckt, wer der Mörder ist, geht unweigerlich die Spannung flöten. Bei "One of Us Is Lying" hat es mich wirklich in den Fingern gejuckt, aber ich konnte widerstehen. Zum Glück! Die Bayview Four oder der Murder Club, wie die Vier bezeichnet werden, haben allesamt Geheimnisse, die mehr oder weniger sehr pikant sind. Man weiß nie, was Wahrheit und was Lüge ist. Mal war ich mir sicher, dass jeder in Frage kommt, der Mörder von Simon zu sein, mal dachte ich, dass es keiner der Vier gewesen sein kann. Man lernt alle der Charaktere besser kennen, nach und nach kommen ihre Geheimnisse ans Tageslicht und man verfolgt, wie sie mit den Geschehnissen umgehen. Ich fand es sehr spannend, dass man wirklich nie wusste, woran man ist und so konnte ich fast durchgehend mitfiebern! Ich hätte mir allerdings gewünscht, dass die Ermittlungen ein wenig mehr im Fokus der Handlung gestanden hätten. Wir begleiten Bronwyn, Addy, Nate und Cooper dabei, wie sie mit den Anschuldigungen umgehen, wie sie reagieren, als ihre Geheimnisse offenbart werden, aber auch, wie sie sich besser kennenlernen und selbst ermitteln. Oft begleitet man ihr normales Leben und hier hätte ich es interessant gefunden, wenn man mehr von den Ermittlungen und den Befragungen mitbekommen hätte, auch weil ich das Gefühl hatte, dass die Spannung im Mittelteil etwas nachgelassen hat. Der Beginn und das Ende waren natürlich besonders spannend und insgesamt ließ sich die Geschichte sehr gut lesen. Ich musste mich nie zum Weiterlesen zwingen und fand es sehr spannend, jeden der vier Protagonisten besser kennenzulernen! Fazit: "One of Us Is Lying" von Karen M. McManus hat mir richtig gut gefallen! Ich hatte viel Freude dabei zu rätseln, wer hinter dem Tod von Simon steckt, denn man wusste nie, wer wirklich der Täter ist. Aber ich mochte auch Bronwyn, Nate, Addy und Cooper richtig gerne und ihre Geschichten konnten mich wirklich mitreißen, sodass ich gute vier Kleeblätter vergebe! Weniger
