This book presents an analysis of the rural development implications of emerging high-value chains in developing countries. The study uses data from a household survey of vegetable producers in Kenya and applies innovative analytical methods to evaluate impacts of farmer participation in high-value food chains on farm productivity and technical effi ciency. Impacts of supply chain modernization on household income and poverty as well as impacts on agricultural labor markets are also analyzed.
