The global emphasis on approaches to HIV prevention, treatment and care that people should know their HIV status has led to the prominence of Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT).Despite the national scale up of VCT in Kenya up to the rural areas, and massive campaigns, the uptake of the services by young people is low.Factors that influence translation of VCT knowledge into the actual uptake of VCT services have not been adequately studied especially among young people in rural areas. This book, provides a critical examination of the factors that young people identify as influencing their uptake of VCT services in selected rural districts of Central Province Kenya. Social and service-related factors are evaluated based on the Health Belief Model. The analysis should help shed more light on the complexity of sexual behaviour among young people and on some factors that complicate the process of translating information into health-seeking behaviour. This book should be especiallyuseful to professionals in the education, communication and health fields or others interested in understanding young people in Kenya.
