Henryk Sienkiewicz wurde am 05.05.1846 in Wola Okrzejska, Polen geboren; er starb am 15.11.1916 in Vevey, Schweiz.Sienkiewicz wurde im russischen Teil Polens geboren. Sein Vater war aktiv im Widerstand gegen die Fremdherrschaft. Sienkiewicz studierte in Warschau. Ab 1872 veröffentlichte er kurze satirische Texte und schrieb Feuilletons für die Zeitung Gazeta Polska. 1876 unternahm er eine längere Reise in die USA. Er unternahm weitere Reisen innerhalb Europas, 1891 bereiste er Afrika. Nach Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkrieges reiste er in die Schweiz aus.Sienkiewicz erhielt 1905 den Nobelpreis für Literatur.Quelle: Wikipedia
