The author is a retired medical practitioner with 50 years of experience. For 20 years, he worked in rural and industrial practices in the north of England, followed by caring for students and staff at an Australian university. A keen yachtsman and bush-walker in the past, he today enjoys carpentry and gardening, and is a member of a heritage railway preservation society
