The wastewater of the Mascara STEP (Algeria) is treated with activated sludge for reuse in irrigation. In this context, the work developed in the framework of our internship aims to perform a bacteriological and physico-chemical analysis of samples taken upstream and downstream of the Elkouayer wastewater treatment plant in order to evaluate the water quality. The results obtained show satisfactory treatment yields of 94.45% of suspended solids (TSS) and the reduction rates of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand for 5 days (BOD5) are respectively 91.74% and 86%. The removal of NO2, NO3 and NO4 is well achieved, the respective residual concentrations evaluated at 0.034, 0.30, 1.96 mg / l remain at an acceptable level in the treated effluent. However, bacteriological analysis revealed their richness in control germs of fecal contamination, on average 1.4.102 total coliforms (TC), 8.9.10 fecal coliforms (CF), 1.9.102 fecal streptococci (SF) per 100 ml.
