I regard the culturally rich bookbinding as formats that hold great meaning; I made models of books that existed in different cultures through the history of the book. I became interested in how each structure had unique features and how the books themselves transmitted knowledge about their form. Islam Aly received a BA and an M.A. in Art Education from Helwan University, Egypt. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate, College of Education, Art Education program, University Of Iowa. In 2013 he received an MFA in Book Arts at the University of Iowa Center for the Book.
