Stephen W. Hawking (1942-2018) was an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist and author who was director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge. He was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge from 1979 to 2009 and is the author of numerous books, including the international best-seller A Brief History of Time. (1989).
