The increasing popularity of sports betting engages researchers as it seems to target the youth and feed on their love for sports with the promise of a better future. As a double-edged sword, sports betting has both positive and negative outcomes. The consensus seems to be that the negative outcomes outweigh the positive, with some studies pointing to addiction, financial loss and drug/substance abuse. This study explored the motivation for the involvement of the youth of Nima into sports betting. Specifically, the study focused on how and why participants got into sports betting, the positive and negative outcomes they experienced as well as their perceived recommendations on promoting responsible sports betting. Guided by the qualitative research design, 100 sports bettors were conveniently and purposively selected for this study using a well-structured questionnaire.
