What is it about Australian thrillers that speaks to me? Another suspenseful story is delivered by Jane Harper with her debut novel 'The Dry'. Focussed on characters and full of small town mysteries, this book contains everything I wanted and more. Aaron Falk is a likeable protagonist with flaws but without superpowers. When he comes back to his hometown to help the parents of his childhood friend discover the real reason for their son's supposed murder of his family and suicde, Aaron is met with hostility from the people of Kiewarra, as they still haven't forgot about his involvement as a teenager in the death of a local girl. Aaron ends up investigating both deaths, believing in the possibility that they may be related somehow.
Another book that undeservedly waited too long to be read, so big thanks to the LB sub challenge for bringing it back to my attention. One book cleared, but alas - there are already two sequels waiting to take its place *sigh*
