Inspired by the motion picture, Short Circuit, Tri Star Pictures, 1986, the CPWD Identity Awareness Series is an expanding series of insightful tales focused on navigating the critical years of youth development throughout Jr. High and early high school. Each book in The Chronicles of Coop-de-Ville engages the reader in pieces of a young person's identity development and sparks lively post-reading discussions about lessons in diversity, morality and life.Book one; I Am Who I Am sets the stage for youthful adventure and the often frightening first Jr. High dance experience. Ken, Jr., a young boy hoping for popularity and the eye of the most popular girl in the school, is frantic about his appearance, his ability to make friends, and his chances of being cool on the dance floor. Ken searches himself to and fro before hopelessly looking to his best friend Jimmy to provide understanding about his terrible life. To Ken's surprise, after learning a few new dance moves and some deep secrets about the girl of his dreams, an unforgettable tale about coming into one's own comes to a life changing conclusion!CPWD youth development books are a collection of stories identified by individual series targeting major social and behavioral development issues that can hopelessly separate youth from a rightful place in the hearts of adults and mentors. Each series is dedicated to matters of Identity Awareness, Diversity Education, Peer Pressure, Relationships, Self-Esteem and Behavior and faith development. Youth from all over have benefited from the insight found in these CPWD stories which spark diversity and spiritual dialogues of all types. Here's one of many testimonies about the CPWD Identity Awareness Series..."You address youth identity, but you also get to the very essence of what multiculturalism ought to be. Moreover, you do it in a most engaging and thought-provoking way. My deepest congratulations!" - Carlos Cortés, Senior Consultant; Dora the Explorer, Nickelodeon
Autorenporträt
Ken Coopwood, Sr., Ph.D. - A diversity trainer since 1992, Ken has answered a higher calling to labor unceasingly for the benefit of education about diversity throughout the nation's schools and universities and within corporate, government and youth agencies. He has worked with diverse populations to educate about identity constructs as a means to effective change, and uses sundry experiences to enhance the overall strategic plan of change-driven institutions. He is noted for conducting high-energy workshops and employing humorous activities that fuse identity stages with educational progression and self-esteem. A professor of educational psychology, Ken believes that diversity management is a prerequisite for effective change, and that knowledge of people (cultural, psychological, and spiritual) is often absent when structural change is being implemented. He asserts that people are often more interested in their perceptions of others than the perceptions others have of themselves. His philosophy is expressed by his quote: "In a nation where speculations of money, health, poverty and policy rank supreme in the conscience of the public mind, the most tragic and destructive display of human judgment is still that which conceals the absolute truth of a people."
