A textbook which discusses the broad chemical principles underlying the application of dyes and pigments to a wide variety of substrates - textiles, surface coatings, plastics etc. It also discusses non-substrate uses of dyes and pigments and the use of colour measurement.
The broad chemical principles underlying the application of dyes and pigments to a wide variety of substrates - such as textiles, surface coatings and plastics - are explained and illustrated. The various technologies of colour application are discussed. The physical basis of colour and its instrumental measurement are covered and recent applications, for examples in electronics and reprographics, are also featured. The subjects covered are * Dye and pigment molecules * Chemistry of polymeric substrates * Surface coatings: paints and printing inks * The application of dyes * Pigments and their application * Textile printing * Introduction to the physical basis and measurement of colour * Machinery for dyeing textiles * Pigment dispersion technology * Non-textile uses of dyes * Environmental and toxicology issues
Autorenporträt
The three authors have had many years' experience of research and teaching in colour chemistry, and are senior academic staff in the School of Textiles at the Scottish Borders campus of Heriot Watt University. Dr Robert Christie has particular interests in dye and pigment chemistry, surface coatings and pigment applications, Dr Robert Mather in textile and polymer science and dye application, and Dr Roger Wardman in colour measurement and colour application.
