Carbohydrate fatty acid esters,ever served as food additive, are found to show remarkable antibacterial activity, while the regioselective synthesis of sugar fatty acid esters is normally achieved with enzyme method.In this book a novel regioselective synthesis method is described, the glucoside esters were efficently and conveniently synthesized with high regioselectivity using stanlyene method, general factors affecting regioselectivity has been examined in detail. The antibacterial activity were also assessed toward these snythesized esters, the findings showed that the lauroyl derivatives has a specific antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus. The effect was found to be dose dependent. This work provides a new idea to the regioselective synthesis of carbohydrate fatty acid esters, may arouse interest towards those engaged in research in this field.

Dr Xin Lou obtained his PhD on carbohydrate chemistry in Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland at 2005.Afterwards, He moved to Sanfranciso,CA,USA, did Postdoctoral job in Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department in UCSF.
