The management of displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures remains a significant challenge to orthopaedic surgeons and patients and there is no general agreement for the best surgical treatment of displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures. These fractures are debilitating and have important long-term consequences for patients. The most effective treatment for displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures is still a matter of debate. The adverse effects of the most popular plate osteosynthesis is the damage to the soft tissues with subsequent wound complications and lateral plate impingement. To avoid these soft tissue complications, several minimally invasive methods have been developed. The aim of this study was to describe a new surgical technique for locked nail osteosynthesis of displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures.
