Research on retention strategies has undoubtedly grown in volume over the past few decades, but this growth has not given much attention to the link between succession planning and staff retention. Thus, the purpose of this book is to: establish the effects of succession planning programs on staff retention in the sugar companies of Western Province, Kenya. Secondary purposes includes to; establish the availability of succession planning programs in the sugar companies, determine how succession planning programs contribute to employees' growth, establish the relationship between succession planning and job satisfaction and assess the perception of employees on staff retention in the sugar firms. Samples of permanently employed staff at the management level were were purposively, stratified and simple randomly sampled. From the Findings, more employees had high job satisfaction because of going through the succession planning process with the hope of being next in line of management. This had a positive effect on the retention of staff in the sugar firms Mentioned in this book.
