JAMES EDWARD OGELTHORPE was the founder of the colony of Georgia. RODNEY M. BLAINE (1913-2000) was a distinguished eighteenth-century studies scholar and professor in the English department at the University of Georgia. He is the author or editor of several works, including Thomas Holcroft and the Revolutionary Novel, A History of English Poetry, and The Publications of James Edward Oglethorpe. NOELEEN MCILVENNA is professor of history at Wright State University. She is author of three books, including The Short Life of Free Georgia: Class and Slavery in the Colonial South and Early American Rebels: Pursuing Democracy from Maryland to Carolina, 1640-1700.
