Chrome plating wastewater was characterized for high metal concentration to be treated and safe the environment. The results have indicated that metal concentration loading are very high. The extent of the removal of chromium by lime water suspension was effective. That is, it is possible to remove total chromium by using lime water suspension with 99.97% to 99.99% chromium removal efficiency. On the other hand, chemical precipitation by lime water suspension is very inexpensive and a well established technology which removes/precipitates the chromium. Therefore, frequent tests are necessary for confirmation of optimal treatment conditions. Overdosing of the lime can diminish the effectiveness of the treatment. It was found that the treatment efficiencies depend on: the original chromium concentrations in wastewater, and the dosages of chemicals and the types of chemicals used in treatments.
