In this study Fuzzy Linear Programming model is developed for optimal reservoir operation. For this purpose Gangapur Reservoir is taken as a case study. The Gangapur dam is constructed across river Godavari in Nasik District of Maharashtra state India. Godavari is the largest river flowing through the state of Maharashtra; it flows across the Deccan plateau from Western Ghats to the eastern. It rises at Trimbkeshwar in Nasik district of Maharashtra about 80.46 Km from the Arabian Sea at an elevation of 1066.81m. After flowing for about 1464.44 Km in general south east direction, through Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, Godavari falls into the Bay of Bengal about 96.55 Km below Rajamuhendry. The total drainage area of Godavari basin is about 313359.5 Km2. Gangapur project is constructed as a multipurpose project. By this dam the initial requirements of surrounding people got fulfilled, but due to increase in population densities around the reservoirs changed the land use patterns over the years. The concept of fuzzy logic and its adoption for planning and management of complex water resources system is becoming popular in the field of water resources engineering.
