Chronic diseases are degenerative conditions that last more than three months and limit the patient in their daily activities, including cardiovascular disease (CVD), respiratory disease, diabetes, obesity and rheumatoid arthritis. Its aetiology is diverse, and its causes range from non-modifiable factors (age and genetics) to modifiable ones.(age and genetics) to modifiable (lifestyle). The World Health Organisation (WHO) stated that these diseases account for 71% of deaths worldwide, and are not curable. Although each disease has a different pathophysiology, the inflammatory process is linked to the development, progression and complication of these conditions; and because such inflammation is chronic, a treatment scheme based on the use of anti-inflammatory drugs must be established; however, the available scientific literature mentions that it is possible to prevent the inflammation associated with these diseases, as well as reduce their symptoms, through the adoption of significant lifestyle modifications, especially diet.
