Diabetic nephropathy (a micro-vascular complication) is the most common cause of end stage renal disease (ESRD). If untreated, 80% of people who have type-1 diabetes and microalbuminuria will progress to overt nephropathy whereas 20-40% of those with type-2 diabetes over a period of 15 years will progress. It is concluded that diabetic patients suffer more from oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is still higher in diabetic patients with nephropathy complication than patients without nephropathy.
