Interactive Music 2.0 reports on the results of a pioneering implementation of interactive music systems inside nightclubs in Portugal and Norway. It consists of two projects: 1) Interactive Nightclub, a system that harvests harmonic information from the DJ s music and connects it to various controllers so people can improvise with their movements; and 2) Dance Jockey, a musical performance based on movement that uses a sensor suit to collect kinetic information from the wearer and map it to various sounds. As the role of the online user is broadening to encompass a culture of digital participation that is extending to our daily life through ubiquitous, intelligent technology, we need to start thinking about the shape this culture of participation will assume in public, playful arenas. By exploring public locations, motion capture, music information retrieval and interactive music, this research accomplished in developing a series of experiments that integrate these four domains into a holistic approach to fostering music expression inside nightclubs.

My work deals with sound and motion. I focus on performing and implementing motion capture technologies, such as cameras or sensor suits, on dancers and locations to encourage alternative methods for collaborative music making.
