An investigation was carried out to distinguish the differences among 11 parents and their 55 diallel crosses of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea L. ) on the basis of storage seed protein profile using SDS - PAGE at the Central laboratory, S.K.N. College of Agriculture, Jobner. The SDS-PAGE was carried out on the protein samples extracted from cotyledons of the seeds, which represented acid soluble proteins (Tris-HCl) along with fats and oil. On the basis of results of SDS-PAGE on seed storage protein in the present study on Indian mustard it may be concluded that it is desirable to broaden its genetic base through other approaches like interspecific hybridization for future breeding work.
