The text of this book is taken from the fourth part of my thesis. Passionate about the socialization of children in the school environment, I set out to study the processes at work within this institution. Noting that kindergarten, and in particular the early years, was the poor relation in sociological studies of schools, I decided to take a closer look. After a pre-survey in several classes, I was accepted as an observer in five socially contrasting schools. Their kindergarten classes formed the field of my investigation. This book retraces the sum total of the interactions observed between adults, adults and children, and children between peers. The description of the situations observed, scenes from everyday kindergarten life, is highly detailed and parallels certain sociological variables. How does this environment shape these children? How do these children cope with the imposed norms? How do they show that they are not passive in their socialization? This is what this bookaims to highlight.
