As a young elementary school student Durant felt a lot like an animal trapped in a cage. He wanted to be anywhere but in a classroom. The classroom was a place of frustration, confusion, and sometimes even bullying. He often felt misunderstood. When he became aware of his dyslexia, he received the needed support from outstanding teachers and that brought his life full circle. He became a passionate educator. Durant learned to learn "his way" and then went on to thrive in high school, graduated with a degree in Communications / Journalism, and then happily earned his doctorate. After twenty-five years in ministry, with training and extensive experience in counseling, he turned his energy and skills toward supporting students with dyslexia. Having spent years as a classroom teacher, then as a school principal, Durant has seen the power of how trained teachers can effectively assist dyslexic students to step into their full academic potential.Durant is now a full-time writer, speaker, school consultant, and passionate dyslectic advocate. He was once asked, "Why did you write this book?" His answer is simple, "Because skilled and dedicated teachers helped me, and those caring teachers made all of the difference in my life.
