Snowden, who has been granted temporary asylum in Russia, has stated that there is a threat to his life, but he will not be intimidated. In his homeland, Snowden is charged with violating two articles of the U.S. Espy Act of 1917 - the unauthorized disclosure of classified information affecting national defense and the deliberate transfer of data from U.S. intelligence to individuals who have no right to receive such information. In addition, he is charged with theft of U.S. government property. On each of the charges, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
