Letter to Artists - I have asked each you to participate in this exhibition based on my respect for your various practices, and of your access and opinions of the South Side Community Art Center and other culturally specific institutions. My involvement with the South Side Community Art Center started as an artist in need. Coming to Chicago in 2003, I had no resources or support. The artists of the SSCAC reached out to me and started the foundation for my practice. After 6 years of involvement I have transitioned from artist of the SSCAC to administrator of the SSCAC. Through my involvement, I have had privy to the intricacies of how the organization is managed and leveraged. I know that many of you have also had experiences with the SSCAC and other similar organizations and I would ask that you be prepared to take an honest yet loving look at these organizations and provide your thoughts and interpretations." This project is about dismantling and rebuilding.
