The Indian mobile economy is growing rapidly and is expected to contribute substantially to India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The name "telecommunication" originated from the Greek word "tele" (Distance) and the Latin word "communicare" (sharing). It was introduced in India by the British during the 19th century. In October 1851 on an experimental basis, electric telegraph lines were installed in Kolkata (Economic Times, 2014). In British times, Dr. William O'Shaughnessy is known to have pioneered the telegraph and telephone in India (Vatsal and Premraj, 2007). In1882 with a total of 93 subscribers (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, 2012).
