Nacido el 26 de enero de 1947 en Kuningan, Java Occidental, Indonesia. Profesor de Cirugía en la Univ. Padjadjaran, Hospital General Hasan Sadikin, Bandung, como cirujano en 1985; programa de doctorado en el AMC - Univ. de Amsterdam 1985-1988; formación en Cirugía Vascular en el Centro Médico de la Univ. de Leiden 1988-1990. Jubilado el 1 de febrero de 2017, sigue enseñando en la Univ. Islam Bandung.
