Ich habe mit großem Interesse die Karriere der Sophie Straw "verfolgt" und war von den Charakteren gefesselt. Dennis, der ruhige Macher im Hintergrund, der Sophie über alles liebt, aber zu ruhig und zu schüchtern ist, ihr dies zu sagen oder zu zeigen. Die Synergie zwischen Tony und Bill, die in vielen Dingen so eins waren aber dann doch wieder so verschieden! Und zuletzt Clive, der eine große Karriere machen will aber letztlich hinter seinen eigenen Erwartungen zurückbleibt.
Und diese fünf Personen treffen nun schicksalhaft zusammen und erreichen, wovon sie vorher nur träumen konnten: Sie produzierten zusammen eine der erfolgreichsten Comedy-Sendungen in den 60er Jahren.
Gelungen war auch, dass dieser Erfolg, so groß er auch sein mochte, doch vergänglich war. Die Welt dreht sich weiter und der Ruhm verblasst. Trotzdem sieht Sophie voller Stolz zurück und fühlt sich vom Schicksal begünstigt.
Ich kann das Buch nur empfehlen, wie so viele Bücher von Nick Hornby.
