Autorenporträt
Roald Dahl wurde am 13. September 1916 in Llandaff bei Cardiff in Wales als Sohn norwegischer Eltern geboren. Sein Vater war Schiffsausrüster. Nach dem Besuch der Public School Repton absolvierte Dahl eine kaufmännische Lehre bei der Shell Oil Company in London, die ihn 1936 nach Tanganijka schickte. Bei Ausbruch des Zweiten Weltkriegs meldete er sich freiwillig und wurde Pilot der Royal Air Force. Nach einer schweren Verwundung wurde er bis Kriegsende als stellvertretender Luftwaffenattaché an die britische Botschaft in Washington versetzt. Anschließend lebte Dahl abwechselnd in den USA und in England als Drehbuchautor, Publizist und freier Schriftsteller. Roald Dahl starb am 21. November 1990 in der Nähe von London.
