Autorenporträt

Die 1949 in Warren, Ohio geborene Elizabeth George hat früh mit dem Schreiben begonnen: bereits als Siebenjährige bekam sie ihre erste Schreibmaschine geschenkt. Dennoch sollten noch über 30 Jahre vergehen, bevor George der Durchbruch als Krimiautorin gelang. Nach einem Englisch- und Psychologiestudium arbeitete die Amerikanerin mit dem Faible für England zunächst als Lehrerin an der High School sowie als Dozentin für Kreatives Schreiben an verschiedenen Universitäten. Erst als sie ein Seminar zum Thema Krimi hielt, kam sie auf die Idee, sich selbst einmal in diesem Genre zu versuchen. Der Rest ist Legende: Bereits ihr Debüt "Gott schütze dieses Haus" sorgte für Furore und wurde mehrfach preisgekrönt. Seitdem hat George, die im US-Bundesstaat Washington lebt, fast im Jahresrhythmus ein Buch um Inspektor Thomas Lynley und Sergeant Barbara Havers veröffentlicht. Nicht zuletzt durch die Verfilmung der Romane wurden die beiden so gegensätzliche Ermittler zum Liebling eines Millionenpublikums.
