This study examines the alarming human rights situation and mass arrests in Ethiopia's Amhara Ethnics, where ongoing conflict between government forces and Fano militia has resulted in widespread human rights violations. Using a qualitative research methodology with in-depth interviews and document analysis, this research investigates the nature, scope, and impact of human rights violations including extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detention, physical abuse, torture, property destruction, and sexual violence. The study documents that approximately 182 individuals, including judges, prosecutors, and academic scholars such as Dr. Derese Simegnaw (PhD), have been charged with terrorism and constitutional crimes and detained without trial for over 20 months. Findings reveal systematic human rights abuses, with reports indicating daily deaths of approximately 100 Amhara in police stations and detention facilities, and mass arrests of up to 1,000 individuals daily on suspicion of Fano affiliation.
