But all the same: we move.” A man, torn between the two worlds he inhabits, falling in love with the night sky and a married man. A ghost, haunting that very man. A comet, making its way across the sky, and a girl on the brink of adulthood, starting to question what she’s been taught about God and being ‘good’. From here, the story unfolds, pondering questions about faith, love and how to deal with the pain people sometimes inflict on each other. I was (and still am) obsessed with Sarah Perry’s previous novels “The Essex Serpent” and “Melmoth”, so naturally, my hopes were high. Everything I love about her books, I have found here as well: The rich, profound prose that is so beautiful and melodic, that every now and then I had to stop reading to marvel at it, a cast of complex characters that are a joy to read about and the subjects that are discussed within the story. Her books will always have a special place in my heart, which is why I will keep on recommending them to everyone I know. I cannot wait for her next novel and have decided my hopes will stay high, as I’m sure they will be met!
