From here, the story unfolds, pondering questions about faith, love and how to deal with the pain people sometimes inflict on each other. I was (and still am) obsessed with Sarah Perry’s previous novels “The Essex Serpent” and “Melmoth”, so naturally, my hopes were high. Everything I love about her books, I have found here as well: The rich, profound prose that is so beautiful and melodic, that every now and then I had to stop reading to marvel at it, a cast of complex characters that are a joy to read about and the subjects that are discussed within the story. Her books will always have a special place in my heart, which is why I will keep on recommending them to everyone I know. I cannot wait for her next novel and have decided my hopes will stay high, as I’m sure they will be met!
