Das Buch ist wie eine Welle, man will auf ihr bleiben und bis zum Ende reiten! Immer höher auf der Riva- Welle bleiben. Für mich machen die Zeitsprünge in der Geschichte, diese noch interessanter. Zuerst liest man über die Geschwister und dann wird man circa 20 Jahre zurück katapultiert und lernt Mick und June kennen. Das Leben von Mick und June fängt schon spektakulär an und Mick ist ein notorischer Frauenheld und kann der Versuchung einfach nicht widerstehen. June die ihre Kinder über alles liebt aber immer mehr in Alkohol versinkt. Den Geschwistern bleibt nichts anderes über als für sich selbst und die Mutter zu sorgen. Die Riva-Kids haben so einen starken Zusammenhalt und unterstützen sich gegenseitig, das hat mich sehr beeindruckt. Die Charaktere sind so echt, so authentisch!

Schon seit Daisy & the Six bin ich ein großer Taylor Jenkins Reid Fan. Absolut grandios geschrieben aus den Perspektiven aller vier Riva Geschwistern zu unterschiedlichen Zeitpunkten in deren Leben und zeitlichen Sprüngen zum alles ändernden Abend im August 1983. Was ich auch an Taylor Jenkins Reid liebe, ist das Spinnennetz der einzelnen Charaktere aller ihrer Bücher. Spoiler Alert - Mick Riva ist einer der 7 Ehemänner von Evelyn Hugo... Ich konnte Malibu Rising nicht aus der Hand legen und habe es direkt am Stück durchgelesen.

Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of my favourite authors of all times so I knew beforehand that I would love this book. What I didn't expect though, is that it would become my highlight of the year. I was so invested in the Riva siblings' storylines, as they grew so much on me so quickly. Learning about their struggles and feelings has honestly not only taught me so much but changed my way of thinking in many aspects as well. I also generally loved the overall atmosphere of Malibu in the 80s and enjoyed the bitter sweet, deeply emotional and tragic elements. It was so insanely captivating, I just couldn't put it down. My heart is overflowing with emotions when I think about this book and I think about it all the time. Please read it, you won't regret this!

Ich empfehle davor zumindest schon The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo gelesen zu haben. Dann ist das Erlebnis noch besser. Die Story und Hauptfiguren sind sehr interessant. Der Schreibstil und die Erzählweise gefällt mir sehr gut und packt mich jedes Mal. Ich bin begeistert. Bücher von Taylor Jenkins Reid zu lesen ist spannender als einen Film zu schauen.

This was my first Jenkins read. I was excited to finally see what the hype was about and if it was worth it. My conclusion in general is that I enjoyed it very much and it is written good. If it weren’t Summer though I wouldn’t have enjoyed as much because you have to be in the atmosphere and mood to picture the landscape and characters. I loved the flashbacks of June and Mick‘s love story and its tragical end. Also loved that the siblings had their own individual characteristics but the main focus was Nina and I thought that made the story a bit slippery because it was so focused one person especially. I didn’t like the ending very much because of all the new added characters at the party and I expected more of the ending because it felt a bit cringe at times. But all in all it’s a super light summer read and I felt like reading a biography of real life people. Can’t wait to read more of her books! Especially The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo
