Rezension

A captivating retelling of the Iliad and events leading up to it through the point of view of Patroclus: it's a hard book to put down, and any classicist will be enthralled by her characterisation of the goddess Thetis, which carries the true savagery and chill of antiquity Donna Tartt

Heartbreaking

Bewertung am 27.02.2026

Bewertungsnummer: 3059943

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

The book is written in a way that makes the reader resonate with the characters immediately, especially with Patroclus who narrates the story. Even though I knew how the story would end, the last few chapters were still absolutely heartbreaking. Literally couldn’t put the book down and would definitely recommend reading.

Lovely and devastating

Bewertung am 18.02.2026

Bewertungsnummer: 3050385

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Even knowing the original myth, the storytelling is captivating all over, and knowing how it ends did nothing to soothe the emotional reaction, its beautiful and sad and oh so beautiful in its sadness, it took me a bit to really get into it, but after I really found my footing in the story it was utterly captivating. Very sad, very lovely, you will probably cry and love it all the same
