Never Let Me Go

Kazuo Ishiguro's book is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful love stories I've ever encountered, with a haunting touch of darkness. His mesmerizing narrative style, intricate character exploration, and lyrical prose make this a compelling and thought-provoking read that will stay with you long after you've finished the last page.

Never Let Me Go offers powerful world-building that invites readers to compare their own lives to those of the characters living in its haunting, dystopian parallel world. Where it falls short, in my opinion, is in the portrayal of the main character. While her actions are relatable, the constant foreshadowing—where nearly every page sets up the next—and the frequent second-guessing of her decisions, often without deeper reflection or emotional weight, make the narrative feel repetitive. As a result, what could have been an emotionally gripping story sometimes feels like a flat recounting of events set in an otherwise fascinating world. Overall, the book left me feeling both underwhelmed and intrigued at the same time.

Hab es mittlerweile mehrmals durch, liebe den Schreibstil der Autorin! Suche jetzt nach ähnlichen Büchern, hab mir auch andere bücher von lockhart gekauft, aber das Konzept/thema ist natürlich nie das gleiche/ ähnlich. Würde mich sehr auf eine Buchreihe freuen:)

is it juvenile? yes is the writing style a bit choppy? yes does this make it any less enjoyable? no this is the perfect summer book imo, but you have to go into it completely blind, young me would have been obsessed with this book

Incredibly well written story about Starr's life between ghetto, suburb wealth, gangs, family and the truth that might divide her community - the murder of her childhood friend by a white police officer. Despite Starr's age (she is 16), this is not only a book for young adults. Everyone interested in the Black Lives Matter movement and general activism should reat it.
