Autorenporträt
Johanna Reiss grew up in Holland. After she graduated from college, she taught elementary school for several years before settling in the United States. Her first book for children, The Upstairs Room, a Newbery Honor Book, as well as its sequel, The Journey Back, focus on her life in hiding as a Jewish child during the Second World War, and the first year after the Holocaust. Mrs. Reiss lives in New York City, but makes frequent visits back to Holland and travels across the U.S. to discuss her life and the books that came from it.
