HIV/AIDS is a sensitive issue among learners at High Schools and Secondary level. South African learners are at the worst in terms of being careless about HIV/AIDS. Most learners feel that to have fun one must engage in unprotected sex. Drugs and alcohol are rife especially in school going children of 15 to 24 years. Parents are having it hard in controlling their children especially when coming to Weekends since they want to go and have fun by drinking and engaging in sex. They do agree that the use of condom is not in their minds as they say "You cannot eat a sweet while it is still covered". Everybody is trying to come on board but the learners feel that they are grown ups therefore they want to do adult activities. Schools are havens of sexual relationships. Taverns are built near schools with the aim of cashing in on the learners not realizing that they encourage the spread of HIV/AIDS.To the learners HIV/AIDS is a myth not a reality. Something need to be done urgently beforethe situation becomes worse.
