Autorenporträt
Mary T. Newport, M.D., grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was educated at Xavier University and University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She is board certified in pediatrics and neonatology, and she completed her training at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati and Medical University Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. She practiced neonatology in Florida for thirty years and was the founding medical director of two newborn intensive care units in the Tampa Bay area. More recently, Dr. Newport has practiced at the opposite end of the spectrum, providing care for hospice patients in the Tampa Bay area for nearly three years and in-home health risk assessments thereafter. She writes and speaks in the United States and around the world on ketones as an alternative fuel for the brain for Alzheimer’s and other disorders. Dr. Newport was caregiver for fifteen years for her husband of forty-three years, Steven Jerry Newport, who suffered from early-onset Alzheimer’s disease and died on January 2, 2016. They have two daughters and a grandson. Dr. Newport’s previous books include Alzheimer’s Disease: What If There Was a Cure? The Story of Ketones (2011; second edition 2013), The Coconut Oil and Low Carb Solution for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Other Diseases (2015), and The Complete Book of Ketones: A Practical Guide to the Ketogenic Diet and Ketone Supplements (2019).   Dr. Newport has been an invited speaker on the subject of ketones as an alternative fuel for the brain for symposia, conferences, and webinars throughout the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Greece, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand. In the United States, she has given presentations and webinars for University of South Florida, American College of Nutrition, Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, American Oil Chemists Society, Fellowship in Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine, International College of Integrative Medicine, Metabolic Health Summit, Restorative Medicine, and Weston A. Price Foundation.
