Nach Auflösung seiner BigBand "The Bluesbreakers" in 1968 beginnt John Mayall seine Solokarriere und veröffentlicht im gleichen Jahr mit "Blues from Laurel Canyon" sein erstes SoloAlbum mit Mick Taylor, Steve Thompson, Colin Allen sowie Peter Green als Gast, als eine brillante Suite über seine 3-wöchige Urlaubsreise nach Kalifornien und seine Erlebnisse im Musikerparadies Laurel Canyon, wo er u.a. auf "Canned Heat" trifft.
Von seinen Erlebnissen tief beeindruckt entstand in einer Sternstunde des britischen Blues unter dem mittlerweise etwas egozentrisch und eitel gewordenen John Mayall eine der wohl ambitioniertesten Bluessuites der Geschichte.
Emotionen pur, genial verpackt in Bluenotes einer bis dato nicht dagewesenen Bandbreite, unterstrichen mit überraschend persönlicher Lyrik und Intonation vor der Virtuosität der immer perfektionierteren Bluesguitarre und Soundtechnik.
Anm.:
An der Audio CD, released 3. JAN 1990, ist nichts wirklich zu bemängeln, kennt man die Original-LP noch. Soundfreaks sollten sich jedoch die Audio CD, remastered and released 2. OKT 2007, zulegen.
