Es scheint Verbindungen zu der von Jane gehassten Psychologin Joyce O'Donnel und zu einem geheimnisvollen Club von Dämonenjägern zu geben. Kurz darauf trifft es sogar ein Mitglied aus den Reihen der Polizei und Jane und Maura kommen auf der Jagd nach dem Mörder kaum zum Atmen.
Ich muss gestehen, dass mir dieser 6. Teil der Reihe im Gegensatz zum vorhergehenden wieder wesentlich besser gefallen hat. Das Thema des Romans mag viele abstoßen, aber da ich ein Faible für Okkultes habe, traf die Story bei mir voll ins Schwarze. Der Mörder ist relativ schnell bekannt, jedoch nicht was ihn eigentlich antreibt. Die überraschende Lösung lässt bis zum Schluss auf sich warten und es gibt in der Zwischenzeit nun wirklich keinen langweiligen Moment.
Durch die Eheprobleme von Janes Eltern ist auch diese mal auf andere Weise gefordert. Und die endlich nicht mehr zurückgehaltenen Gefühle von Maura gegenüber Pater Brophy bieten neues Konfliktpotenzial. Ich bin gespannt, wie sich dieser Teil der Geschichte in weiterer Folge entwickelt.
Warum der Leiter des Mephisto-Clubs, Anthony Sansone, derart einflussreich auf allen Ebenen agieren kann, bleibt verschlossen. Ich würde mich freuen, wenn der Club in den nächsten Bänden mal wieder in Aktion treten würde, denn die Figur des Gründers ist an sich schon sehr interessant und das Böse schläft schließlich nie.
Tess Gerritsen jedenfalls schafft es weiterhin, die Serie auf hohem Niveau zu halten und man darf auf ihr nächstes Werk – „Grabkammer“ – sehr gespannt sein.
