Prophetisch
korrekt
Ein frecher Drogenthriller von der Westküste; das Genre hat nun die klassische Chandler-Tradition abgelöst: „The Death and Life of Bobby Z“ von Don Winslow, von 1997. Dieses Leben nach dem Tod ist natürlich ein Fake, der Dealer-Star Bobby Z ist wohl tot, aber für eine delikat-bescheuerte Operation brauchtnoch mal seine „Präsenz“, und Tim Kearney soll ihn verkörpern. Der Versager Tim, selbst so gut wie tot, nachdem er einem Hells Angel im Knast die Kehle aufschlitzte. Tim geht auf den Deal ein und gerät in ein brutales Doppelspiel mit Bikern, Dealern, Agenten, Killern, Rothaarigen. Es hilft, dass er mal bei den Marines war, aber dann scheint auch eine bekiffte Mystik im Spiel zu sein, die typisch ist für die Westküste. Die sogar wirre Prophezeiungen plausibel macht, kein Wunder, „wenn das schon bei einem ausgemachten Schizo wie Johannes dem Täufer geklappt hat . . .“
