One afternoon, during a routine meditation, a strange tingling grips Catherine Klatzker, followed by an explosion of voices crowding out her thoughts. Soon these voices, or "parts," begin to emerge more distinctly in her mind, accompanied by persistent insomnia and bouts of mortifying incontinence. Fearing for her sanity, Klatzker turns to a meditation teacher and psychotherapist. What follows is one woman's unflinching excavation of years of repressed sexual and emotional abuse, manifested many decades later as Traumatic Dissociative Identity Disorder. A daring and unafraid debut memoir, You Will Never Be Normal delivers an arresting examination of the emotional toil-and toll-required to be made whole again.
Autorenporträt
Catherine Klatzker is a highly competent and professional critical care RN, yet she struggled unwittingly with dissociative identity disorder (DID) most of her life, while those closest to her knew nothing of her fragmented inner life or her secondary PTSD. "You Will Never Be Normal," a memoir of her personal battle with DID, describes the sudden onset of symptoms when Klatzker was in her fifties, the emergence of five primary separate personalities, and tracks a disjointed healing where slower was faster.Klatzker does not simply explain DID, she makes DID credible and puts a human face to this often misunderstood mental condition."You Will Never Be Normal" is a brave and moving portrayal of living day to day with DID, offering insight into this affliction; yet this true account also conveys the full terror of DID's psychic landscape, the trauma that created it, as well as the illuminating path to recovery. Catherine Klatzker is a writer and RN in Los Angeles, California, whose specialty for twenty-two years was pediatric intensive care. Her nonfiction has appeared in mental health anthologies as well as a range of other journals. This memoir is her debut book.
