Perhaps many of the world's travails can be traced to the displacement of mythology by the age of science. For today, knowledge is deemed useful only if it enlarges our possessions or raises our station in society. But if the criterion were what makes us happier and more virtuous, then mythology would have retained its proper place in the eyes of society. THE AGE OF FABLE is a brilliant reconstruction of the traditional myths that form the backbone of western culture. In this classic work you will find the stories of Cupid and Psyche, Venus and Adonis, The Golden Fleece, Hero and Leander, Hercules, Theseus, Midas, The Apple of Discord and many others-all those ancient myths of ancient Greece and Rome that form a great timeless literature of the past brought vividly to life by a master story-teller.
