Should I self-publish? How do I look for an agent? Do I need a book proposal? How do I find an illustrator? Let me demystify it for you in this comprehensive guide to what is necessary to finish your book project, build your platform, and pursue traditional publishing or self-publishing.

I have more than 30 years of publishing experience with major press, small press, and self-publishing. My fiction and non-fiction is published through Simon & Schuster and Harper Collins and also through my own company LaVenson Press. My works appear in numerous magazines, journals and anthologies. Yes, a lot of planning, strategizing, and learning about things like negotiating contract went into those years. I offer you my years of expertise and knowledge so that you don't have to fall into any of the pitfalls I encountered in my many journeys toward publication. I have taken the guess work out of it and offered what some offered me and what I wished many others offered me, the unconventional truth.

This booklet provides a practical plan to turn that book project into a reality. It offers the unconventional truths about:

  • Getting It Written & Finished
  • Getting a Reputable Agent
  • Getting a Reputable Press
  • Pursuing Independent Press (Self-Publishing)
