"A truly fascinating read...an intriguing and well-written study of lake monsters and shouldn't be missed!" --Liz Konkel, Readers' Favorite Cannibalistic snakes exceeding one hundred feet in length that cause the earth to tremble. Large cats with twelve-inch fangs thought to be extinct. Sauropod dinosaurs that flip canoes. A half-octopus, half-shark creature that pulls boats into the abyss. Plesiosaurs swimming in glacial lakes. These are but a few of the monsters lurking in the waters of South & Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. In his first book, People are Seeing Something: A Survey of Lake Monsters in the United States and Canada, Denver Michaels examined the lake monster phenomenon in depth. In this book, he continues the effort by taking us on a trip "south of the border" to study the myths, legends, folklore, and eyewitness reports of water monsters in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central & South America. What parallels can be drawn between the creatures found to the south and their Canadian and American counterparts? What are we to make of the mermaid legends of South America? Could there be dinosaurs roaming the remote reaches of the Amazon? What are "water tigers?" Is the Giant Anaconda a mythical creature, or does it actually exist? Though many of these creatures are written off as mythical, could they be based something that lived in the remote past? Is it possible that many of the ancient monsters never went extinct? Michaels explores these questions and many others in his work. However, the answers may be disturbing.... FIND OUT WHY Ancient Aliens costar David Hatcher Childress calls Water Monsters South of the Border a "unique book," and renowned cryptozoologist Loren Coleman placed it on his list of TOP TEN CRYPTOZOOLOGY BOOKS OF 2016.
