..."Yes, Mr. President, that's him. The president turned to Joe and said, I got your letter. I've been wanting to talk with you." Was that a threat? When Army veteran Joe O'Flaherty enters the civil service, he encounters many critters. Denied retirement, he is called upon by the president to "drain the swamp." How will he accomplish that and not lose his own soul in the bargain? "An easy read. Master Sergeant Welch is an ole'soldier with a trove of life lessons drawn from service to nation in some tight spots." Major General JB Burns, US Army, Retired "To Walk The Dog is a great informative and revealing book on moving from a challenging military career as a senior NonCommissioned Officer, to working with the civilian force! Battling the good old boy system, the swamp, this is the way we have always done it! Add to this, trying to live out your Christian faith in a world of political correctness, this book is hard to put down! I highly recommend reading this book." Chaplain (Colonel) Gary (Sam) Sanford, US Army, Retired Dr. Welch is a retired United States Army Master Sergeant (just like Joe) and a retired civil servant (also like Joe). With a background in history and business, he would rather ask the what if questions. Historians dismiss these as counter-factual and only write about what did happen. Your author would prefer to write about what did happen AND what might have then happened in order to learn from mistakes and provide a better future for us all.

Dr. Welch is a retired United States Army Master Sergeant (just like Joe) and a retired Civil Servant (also like Joe). With a background in history and business, he would rather ask the "what if" questions. Historians dismiss these as "counter-factual" and only write about what did happen. Your author would prefer to write about what could happen in order to learn from what did happen and explore how it might have been different. Without that, history is of little use.
