"The Sunny Side of the Street" contains just two short fictional stories, full of many interesting characters. They are serious stories yet full of charm. The first story reveals a romantic view of West Indian migration to England. It tells about their optimistic; yet in a naïve way their expectations of coming to England. The story covers their courageous determination in the face of adversity. The story has a very West Indian flavor, and is a tribute to the efforts of the 'SS Empire Wind Rush' generation on arriving, and trying to make a new life in what was historically one of the poorest and run down slum areas of North Kensington, London, in England. The second story is about a Jamaican man who also came to England in 1948, and built himself a bit of a reputation in the East End of London - his story is told through the eyes of his son, 'Denzil Boy' Washington.
